A very beautiful photographic record of photographs (in high quality photo gravure technique).
The famous photographer Ludwig Preiss embarked on his mission of cataloging the Holy Land and Palestine with the meticulousness of a land surveyor and the sensitiveness and craftsmanship of an artist. He photographed architecture, holy sites, street life, markets, craftsmen, people of different religions, children, general views and landscapes, archaeological ruins, the ancient and the modern. These images are reproduced here as fine gravures, exquisitely produced.
The rare color photos by Uvatypie technology are of particular interest, and their quality and charm surpass the standards of process colour printing of the time. This color technology has been developed in 1918 by German Company Uvachrom, however with the destruction of the company in WW2, the technology died, since everything has been bombed and destroyed.
Photographs titled in English, German and French.
This volume is similar to the "Orbis Terrarum" volumes, a series of early photobooks portraying the regions of the world.
